Thing Five:
1) Went to YouTube with much trepidation(is this a word)I had never been there being the good Baptist I am. Neither do I live in a tree...
a. Looked at this video: "Playing for Change" Song Around the World...Stand By Me.
I am telling you it was impressive the way they meshed the song with different
instruments and voices around the world. (Nov. 6,2008)
b. I went to a video called "Wired Santa" 14 sleeps til christmas. I thought this
was so funny! http://wiredsanta.podomatic.com/ Anyway was not succesful trying
to add that to bloglines. Everyone should watch this, funny stuff.
2) I found a couple of book things but nothing as good as our bolgger book club. I did see a Stephen King Book Club. If you were there you might like it. The librarians who think they can sing...not so good. I think we weould need to make something alot more interesting.
a. How about a 5-7 minute...vodcast of a performer coming to the library for a program, that the patron's could see such as...a cooking demo...demo guy or girl is put up on the Library Vodcast and you see a demo of dipping strawberries.
b. What about inhouse programs...such as chess club?...film 5-7minutes of an intense
game and it is sure to attract others to come in. You know what they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
3)The Grand March of the Librarians...Oh boy...Librarians should stick to their day jobs. No singing, dancing or walking around trying to attract attention. Get professionals people. Our job is information.
4)Lynn, please put the Wired Santa up for the intranet or link it. I wanta know what happens to him.

Thing # 4
Flickr...
I feel looking at other people's living rooms, vacation pictures, dog pictures, is strange. I don't see a use for this tool at all. I think to share with family or friends but to send your child's picture out to the unknown...creepy.
1. Groups are people who have common interests...thus they form a group around dogs, knitting, houses or what ever.
2. tags...tagging allows others to see the photos you post on your acount.
3. Library on flickr???? Do I want the world to see me as the easter bunny at the library...not so much. I think that to post to the library site is one thing...patrons like to see their kids at a library program but to have that same picture looked at by a millon other people?????

Thing # 3
Social Networks...who knew? I found that there may be more networks than anyone could join in a lifetime. Possible a way of interacting with people on some level.
1. Eons...for people over 50. I chose this because I felt I would find some connection to the groups that were there. I like the fact that it is for "baby boomers"! I disliked the fact that there were so many discussions to choose from I didn't know which one to look at.
2. Social Networks are popular in my opinion because people can interact with others without really giving away part of themselves.
a. This might be good for some one who is shy, has problems talking to people, doesn't like to leave the house, or just incredibly nosey.
b. Truthfully there is no network that can replace the warmth of conversation, hearing someones voice, their touch, their understanding.
3. Surprise! The first group I checked was..."Helion Grannys"...they are not for me! I then went to a book group but found they were discussing Adult books...also not my thing. I think it will be some time before I find something of interest...something worthwile to actually participate.
4. Our Library Ning & Aparently Ning are really a good space where library users are able to reach out and discuss things. I hope that we can get more paretns involved so they know it is a good space to join a discussion.
To this I say "There's no place Like Home".

Thing # 2
RSS...Really Simple Syndication
Purpose: To bring the web to you...tis faster than look for all the information that is brought directly to you.
Bloglines:
Setting up the account was fairly easy, picking what to suscribe to...not so much!
I chose 4 feeds that I though might be of interest to someone who hardly ever uses the computer at home.
1. Dilbert Daily Strip...strictly for amusement.
2. Librarians Internet Index...Nov. 28 National Day of Listening, plus so many other articles not enough time to read them all. All librarian should suscribe, this was the most interesting feed.
3. Rueters...most readble worthwhile news.
4. Shifted Librarian...One byte at a time? Kind of whats new in libraries, technology.
Library patrons, probably could use RSS to get to what they want, sort of sifting out all the stuff that they don't want.
Possible way to stay connected to things that they are interested in.
